Hello there! Please don't let the word "sociology" intimidate you--we approach this study through watching clips of the viral and somewhat controversial YouTube videos/shows. We then discuss the motivations of the content creators and featured individuals, the social psychology theories, and more! Finally, we write our research paper. You can choose to be part of the writing process; it will take 1 or 2 months. Once we're done, we will publish it (publication place TBD)! Pull up to our meetings. It’s gonna be so much fun!!

Do you like to bake?! If so you should totally join our baking club where we will get together a group of baking enthusiasts and create delicious treats. Our meetings will be held pretty frequently so if you miss one sign up there will be plenty of opportunities for the future. The things we will create will vary, although there will be holiday, cultural, favorites, and many other themes that we will try to incoreperate. As public service is a big part of cate and our lives we also want to incorporate that into our club, so there will be many bake sales and fundraisers where we will gather money to give to certain public service locations. Hang out with friends while playing mafia, a social deduction game where you must work together with your friends in order to figure out who the mafia are before they eliminate all of the other players. No experience with mafia or any other social deduction games is required. Meetings are intended to be casual and, most importantly, fun!

Crochet club is a fun space for all levels of crochets to either learn how to crochet for the first time or to hang out and work on projects with other crocheters. Hooks and yarn are provided, so anyone with any level of experience can come out to learn without needing to worry! Young Men's Forum is an affinity club that meets monthly to discuss men's issues and host fun events for all male identifying students. We will host grills, outings, and classroom meetings each with a focus on different topics while creating a space for male students.

Busking club, or outdoors performance club, is suited for aspiring young musicians who yearn for more performance opportunities. We meet every Friday to rehearse songs ranging from the classical to pop genre. Every Saturday, we express our talent at the Carp Arts Center from 3-4 pm.

Cates Lifting Union for Beginners (CLUB) is a welcoming lifting club designed to introduce students of all genders to strength training in a supportive environment. Our mission is to eliminate the intimidation many feel in the gym and provide guidance for those just starting their fitness journey. No requirements!!

The GirlTalk Magazine is a student-run international intersectional feminist magazine that was brought to Cate in 2021. It is dedicated to empowering young women and girls to start and spread the discussion of important topics surrounding education, the environment, mental health, etc, through bimonthly issues. At Cate School, the Data Science Club introduces students to data science through engaging activities. We invite alumni and guest speakers to share their experiences. Students receive hands-on lessons to build essential skills and work on real projects addressing school-related issues. Although it is centered around speech and debate, Ewe Speaks hosts a variety of different events, on and off campus, in forensics, ethics, quiz bowl, and etc... Ewe Speaks is now the organization behind Not at the Dinner Table (NDT) casual discussion events, the Ewe Speaks Speaker Series, as well as the Cate Quiz Bowl competition.

Writing Dangerously is Cate's creative writing club, where we encourage students to embrace creativity, take risks with their language, and stretch the bounds of narratives. Whether its blackout poetry, memoirs, or freeform writing, we delve into the art of expression in all its forms—so come out to write with love and danger!

Girls Who Climb is a club dedicated to empowering young women through rock climbing. We hope to provide a supportive environment where both seasoned climbers and beginners alike are encouraged to build confidence, strength, and community. Through open climbs at the tower, outdoors climbing trips, or outings to the rock gym, we aim to help members grow and connect both on and off the wall.

Cate’s version of a gay-straight alliance or a gender-sexuality alliance. Our goal is to foster support and community for LGBTQ+ students as well as educate allies about LGBTQ+ identity and history.

El Batidor is Cate School’s student-run newspaper. In Spanish, El Batidor means “the whisk.” This publication intends to “whisk” the ideas and beliefs of the community into a representative print. We aim to give voice to every Cate student, challenging our community’s minds with the introduction of new perspectives.

Cate Law Review provides students the opportunity to analyze Supreme Court cases, the Constitution, and judicial systems through article writing and discussions. At the end of the year, we will publish an online journal of student contributions and arrange for a small group to observe a live court trial.

Want a space where you can explore, learn, and practice a new sport outside of the sports block? Welcome to Climbing Club! It is open to all of the community, ranging from young faculty kids to students of all varying levels of experience. Our goals are to get people out in the wilderness and on the Cate walls as much as possible, as well as to educate the community on a relatively under-the-radar sport that so many in our community love. Climbing club will be heavily involved in events such as outdoor trips, Open Climbs, trips to SBRG (the Santa Barbara Rock Gym), Meetings exploring the climbing community outside of Cate, and so much more! We can't wait to strengthen our climbing skills and the surrounding community with you!

Philosophy club is open to anyone who wants to have a thoughtful conversation. In Philosophy Club, we discuss various philosophical topics, both formally and casually. Our plan is to hold a casual meeting every week and a formal one every 4 weeks. In regards to the formal meetings, the prompt of the discussion will be announced one week prior, so that everybody has time to prepare. This club helps drive student inquiry and deep thinking.

An amazing way to practice your performance skills while giving back to the SB community. This club is for singers and musicians who love to perform and are looking to get more performance experience while greatly enhancing the lives of others in our local assisted living facilities and retirement homes. We meet every other week to practice our songs (can be solo, duet, group, etc.) and perform at a facility once per trimester.

Welcome to Beach Volleyball Club! Our club is to educate the Cate community on beach volleyball, since we live near world renowned beaches. We take trips to the beach every trimester and hold a tournament. If this all sounds interesting to you, I suggest joining today!

In the Gardening Club, we meet regularly to work on our planter boxes around the mesa. Together, we plant seeds, pull weeds, and learn about growing various plants. Our time spent outdoors fosters teamwork and friendship, as we enjoy the fresh air and share our progress. Our mission is to create a supportive environment where students can learn, share, and take action on matters related to physical and mental health, chronic illnesses, disabilities, and overall well-being.

Classics Club brings the worlds of Ancient Greece and Rome to life, demonstrating the influence of these societies. Whether it's political theory, linguistics, law, literature, philosophy, psychology, mathematics, arts, polemology, economics, theology, or even international business, the classical world has many wisdoms no matter one's interests. Join the Fishing Club for weekend fishing trips along the coast! We visit different spots each time, exploring new fishing locations while sharing tips and techniques. Surf club's goal is to get people out and surfing. We will take trips down to the beach providing boards, wetsuits, and tips.

The Eastern European Club at Cate is a club dedicated to celebrating the traditions, languages, and culture of Eastern European community members at Cate! We will hold cooking events, movie and/or sports-watching nights, and SO MUCH MORE. Mesa Flow, Cate’s Yoga Club, is a space for people to come together to create mindfullness and movement in our bodies. We do trips to SB and more to do fun outings to different yoga studios with açaí bowl stops on the way back!

We aim to enhance child literacy and to increase opportunities for higher education. We have annual book drives and service marathons to support the Jesuit Xavier School and the FOCO orphanage in Cambodia. Some DREAM members visit the school and the orphanage over the summer to organize the books we sent. If you are excited to share the joy of reading, come out!
